          of Robert Mitchell who was a brother of Willie
          Ann and Della Mitchell, the wives of Arthur
          Stephens Smith (1834-1912) and Murdock McKay
          Smith, respectively. Children of Hubbard Alder-
          man Smith and Manie Mitchell:
          dau. Mary Eugenia Smith. Married Owen Peterson.
               dau. Louisa Peterson.
               son, Lacy Peterson, twin of above.
          son, Dewey Hobson Smith. Married and had sons:
               son, Donald Smith.
               son, Hubbard Smith.
               son, Robert Smith.
          son, Hubbard Alderman Smith, Jr.
          dau. Annie Mitchell Smith. Married Horace Owens.
     son, Romulus Stuart Smith, born 18 Sept. 1873. Mar-
          ried Julia Hobbs, sister of Fannie Hobbs.
     son, Albert Eugene Smith, born 5 Sept. 1875, died
          young.
son, Robert Smith, born 2 Jan. 1826? Never married.
dau. Henrietta Smith. Married a young man with the last name
     of Belah, a Civil War casualty. One child.
son, Murdock McKay Smith, born 21 Jan. 1830, died 6 Nov.
     1906 in Bladen County. Married Della Mitchell of Fayett-
     ville, N.C., born 27 Oct. 1841, died 3 Jan. 1906. Child.:
     son, William Smith, married, but no heirs.
     son, Fred Smith, married and had two children.
     son, Wallace Smith, never married.
     son, Daniel Smith, married and had two children:
          dau. Verona Smith.
          dau. Katherine Smith.
     dau. Kate Smith. Married Iver McKenzie. Children:

son, David T. Smith. born 1832 in Bladen County, N.C., died
     1912 in Bladen County. Served in Co. K, 3rd N.C. Art.,
     C.S.A. Married Sarah Frances Barnhill, born 16 Feb.
     1839, died 23 Sept. 1892. Children:
     son, Montgomery Smith, born in Bladen County, N.C.,
          14 Oct. 1861. Never married. School Teacher.
     son, George H. Smith, born 1865, died 1938 at White
          Oak, N.C. Married Mary Miriam Melvin, dau. of Hen-
          ry Melvin, who was a son of Sheriff JAMES MELVIN
          and Miriam Simmons. George H. Smith was a farmer
          and merchant, operating a gen. store at White Oak
          when it didn't interfere with his fishing. He and
          his wife reared a family of talented children who
          were highly respected in the community and county.
          Children:
          dau. Leta Varina Smith, married John B. McMillan.
               son, John B. McMillan, Jr. Killed in the Bat-
                    tle of the Bulge in WW II.
