Note: The descendants of this DANIEL JAMES MELVIN should acquire
a copy of "Russ Family Genealogy" by Herbert M. Russ
of Teague, Freestone County, Texas. Mr. Russ has, with
help he graciously acknowledges, traced this ancestry
through North Carolina, South Carolina and Andover,
Massachusetts (1635), to a Reingolde Russ of Cranford,
County Suffolk, England, (c1458), through his son, Sir
Thomas Russ (c1490-1565) of Suffolk of Chapmans, who
was knighted 1 June 1533 at the Coronation of Anne
Bullen of Bolyen, second wife of King Henry VIII. The
book may still be available by writing to Mr. Russ at
      his address in Teague, Texas.

All trace of this branch of the Bladen County, N.C.,
Melvins was lost until it was revealed by Betty Jean
Clanton Robertson, a descendant, to Myrtle Maples
      Dixon and myself.

HTML Editor's notes:

Note to Bob: These are not for this page--it isn't done yet!

Actually, the notes below ARE for this page, but the page
STILL isn't done yet.

The lines now reading:
"County, N.C. born Oct. 1795 in Bladen County, N.C. Married
at Moss Hill, Washington County, Florida Nancy Taylor, born
Oct. 1799, died at Moss Hill. Children of DANIEL JAMES MELVIN and
 Nancy Taylor:"

originally read:
"County, N.C. born Oct. 1795 in Bladen County, N.C. Married
at Mars Hill, Washington County, Florida Nancy Taylor, born
Oct. 1799, died at Mars Hill. Children of DANIEL MELVIN and
 Nancy Taylor:"

This information on Moss Hill suggested by Iris Melvin of Florida
on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 13:47:30 -0500.
Iris's husband George is a descendant of DANIEL JAMES MELVIN.

The line now reading:
"Note: The descendants of this DANIEL JAMES MELVIN should acquire"

originally read:
"Note: The descendants of this DANIEL MELVIN should acquire"

So basically:

The words now reading:
"DANIEL JAMES MELVIN"

originally read:
"DANIEL MELVIN"

This change has been made by the HTML Editor based on the listing
for the father of EPHRIAM POSEY MELVIN on page 47.

Notice that there are three Daniel James Melvins!
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1795-    ), Page 21, head-of-family.
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1815-1903), Page 33, head-of-family.
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1864-1943), Page 34, head-of-family.
The first DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1795-    ) is the one who is
listed here as the father of EPHRIAM POSEY MELVIN.

For EPHRIAM POSEY MELVIN, notice that his name is consistently
spelled "Ephriam" in this book, which is commonly done, but is
different from the Biblical "Ephraim".

Variant word list:
Word searches conducted by computer may produce disappointing
results.  Therefore, for each page, there will be a list like
this of names with middle names omitted, maiden names and married
names used, hyphenated words reconstructed, etc.  Perhaps this
strategy will help those people who are conducting searches on
the Internet find who they are looking for on this page.
It has already proven helpful to the HTML Editor.
