Thomas' will, made in Bladen County, N.C., 8 June 1756 and
probated in Oct. Court 1756 names only a wife, Joan, and a
son, George. Joan could be intended for Jenette and was an
error in copying the will after one of the courthouse fires
which damaged the record books, or Joan could have been a
second wife. The daughter, Jane, could have been provided
for before the will was made. Daniel died at age c86 and was
buried on land that Gov. Gabriel Johnston ordered the Surveyor
General on the 27th day of September 1751 to lay out for him in
Bladen County, N.C., on the south side of South River.
Children of DANIEL MELVIN, Immigrant, and Jane Thomas:

dau. JANE MELVIN, born c 1746 in Bladen County, N.C., died
in Bladen 1836. Married EDWARD REEVES, born 1721 and
died at Reeves' Store about two miles east of Ammon, N.C.,
in 1826 at the age of 105. The Reeves house was gone, but
the old store building was standing in the 1920's. It
was here that DANIEL MELVIN, Jr., was living when he
married Sarah West c1790. When EDWARD REEVES died, Jane
went to live with her sister Susannah and her husband,
Christopher Sutton. Both of the sisters died in 1836.
     See REEVES FAMILY.
dau. Susannah Melvin, born c1748 in Bladen County, N.C.,
died 1836 in Bladen. Married Christopher Sutton.
son, Tolliver Sutton, died 29 Nov. 1894. Married, first,
a Reeves, second, Mariah Peterson, born 7 Sept. 1858.
Died 5 July 1898. Son of Christopher Sutton:
          son, Gaston P. Sutton (1860-1949).
dau. Ann (Nancy) Melvin, born c1753, married Eleaser Russ,
son of THOMAS RUSS and Mary Russ who moved from St. Tho-
mas Parish, S.C., to Bladen County, N.C., before 1735.
See Mary Russ Will. Ann and Elieazer had a son, Eleazer
Russ, Jr., whose name appeared in the 1830 census of Mar-
     ion County, Ga.
son, GEORGE MELVIN, born after 1755 in Bladen County, N.C.
Married Mary Russ, dau. of Thomas Russ, Jr., and Anna
Singletary. It is believed that Anna was a daughter of
John Singletary. GEORGE MELVIN and part of his family
     moved to South Carolina c1820.
son, JOHN MELVIN, born 1762, died 10 March 1853, wives were
     Keziah Suggs and Mary Turner.
dau. Morning Melvin, born after 1755, married, first, Alfonzo
     Rice, second, Windsor Fort.

died on his plantation in N.W. Bladen County, 28 Aug.
1846. Married Sarah West, born 26 June 1772, died 12
Nov. 1844, the daughter of James West it is believed.

DANIEL MELVIN, II
(1769-1846)

Son of DANIEL MELVIN, I, Immigrant, (1708-c1786) of Scotland
and Jane Thomas of Bladen County, N.C., thought to be a dau.
of Francis Thomas and Jeannette Wining, dau of John Wining.
Born in Bladen 27 Aug. 1769, died in Bladen 28 Aug. 1846.
Married Sarah West of Bladen, born 26 June 1772, died 12 of
Nov. 1844, evidently a daughter of James West who settled in
the Ammon section of Bladen County, N.C., about 1760. DANIEL

HTML Editor's notes:

St. Thomas Parish seems to be a part of what is now
Berkeley County, South Carolina, a few miles inland. -Ed.
(This is the reason for the variant word list. The HTML Editor
searched all the files for "Thomas", looking for this reference
and could not find it because "Thomas" had been hyphenated.)

The line now reading:
"dau. JANE MELVIN, born c 1746 in Bladen County, N.C., died"

Originally read:
"dau. Jane Melvin, born c 1746 in Bladen County, N.C., died"

The text in blue is the HTML Editor's correction because there is
indeed a head-of-family page for this particular JANE MELVIN.

Although the name EDWARD REEVES is in all capitals, there is no
head-of-family page for EDWARD REEVES. See instead the page for
his wife, JANE MELVIN (c1748-1836).

There seems to be no separate page for the REEVES FAMILY.
However, try these pages for additional information on the
REEVES FAMILY: Page 067 (JANE MELVIN), Page 068, and Page 108.
Note: Page 108 is the same as the listing for NANCY MELVIN.

HTML Editor's note concerning the other names in red:

The spelling of Eleazer or Elieazer is inconsistent.

Variant word list:
Word searches conducted by computer may produce disappointing
results.  Therefore, for each page, there will be a list like
this of names with middle names omitted, maiden names and married
names used, hyphenated words reconstructed, etc.  Perhaps this
strategy will help those people who are conducting searches on
the Internet find who they are looking for on this page.
It has already proven helpful to the HTML Editor.
