Son of JOSEPH MELVIN (c1789-    ) of Bladen County, N.C.
Born 18 June 1815 in South Carolina, died 9 Oct. 1903 in
Henry County, Alabama, and buried,  Union Cemetery in Hen-
ry County. Married c1835 Louisiana (Lucy Ann) Sholar of
Georgia, born 15 April 1815, died 18 April 1877 in Henry
County, Ala. and buried in Union Cemetery. Children of DAN-
IEL JAMES MELVIN and Louisiana Sholar:
 
son, John Melvin, born 27 March 1836 in Alabama, died 5 Dec.
     1906 in Henry County, Ala., buried in Abbeville City
     Cemetery, Henry County. Married Elizabeth Gamble of
     Alabama, born 4 Feb. 1837, died 20 March 1923 and bur-
     ied in Abbeville City Cemetery, Ala. No issue.
son, David Melvin, born 1838 in Alabama.
dau. Minerva Melvin, born 1840 in Alabama.
dau. Maude Amanda Melvin, born 27 Dec. 1841 in Ala., died
     5 Sept. 1921 in Henry County, Ala. and buried in Union
     Cemetery, Henry County, Ala. Unmarried.
son, Francis Melvin, born 1843 in Alabama.
son, James M. Melvin, born 22 March 1844 in Alabama, died
     17 Feb. _____ in Henry County, Ala., buried in Union
     Cemetery, Henry County. Married, first, S. Missouri
     Davis, dau. of W.F. and Martha Davis, born 11 April
     1845, died 6 May 1889. James M. married, second, Hattie
     J. Roberts, born 27 Jan. 1861, died 18 April 1928. No
     issue by this last marriage. Children of James M. Mel-
     vin and S. Missouri Davis:
     dau. Anna Melvin, born 1869, Henry Co., Alabama.
     dau. Maggie Melvin, born 31 Aug. 1872, died 2 Sept.
          187_, buried in Union Cemetery, Henry Co., Ala.
dau. Susannah Melvin, born 15 Dec. 1845, died 14 June 1923
     and buried in Union Cemetery, Henry County, Alabama.
dau. Louisiana Melvin, born 1846, Henry County, Alabama.
dau. July Ann Melvin, born 1849, Henry County, Alabama.
dau. Calidonia Melvin, born 1851, Henry County, Alabama.
