ton of Turnbull Township, Bladen County, N.C. Born c1822 ac-
cording to 1850 Census, died in Bladen County. Married Barbara
McCall, born c1822 in Bladen County, died 1881. See McCALL.

Son of Sheriff JAMES MELVIN (1797-1881) and Miriam Simmons
of Bladen County, N.C. Born 20 June 1844 in Bladen County,
N.C., died 15 Nov. 1931 at White Oak, Bladen County. Married
Phoeba Elizabeth Jones, born 19 July 1859, died 23 Feb. 1906,
a sister of John Y. Jones. It is of interest to note that
the name, "Miles", occurs among the descendants of Capt. John
Melvin who settled on the Salkehatchie Creek of South Caro-
lina in the early 1700's. Children of DANIEL MILES MELVIN

     Married Lola Woodburn, dau. of Thomas Woodburn of Guil-
     ford County, N.C., later Bladen County.

son, Fred Melvin, born 26 June 1880, died 5 July 1955, bur-
     ied in White Oak, N.C. Married Addie Layton. Children:
