Washington County, Florida, the daughter of Thomas Leonard
and Susan Ann Sellars. According to the records in the posses-
sion of Betty Clanton Robertson, a granddaughter of EPHRIAM
POSEY MELVIN, he was a farmer, teacher, sheriff and judge.
First, he was a member of the Methodist Church, but afterwards,
he joined the Mormon faith. Perhaps, this accounts for his
practice of polygamy.

HTML Editor's notes:

The date in red, 1938, is much too late to make sense.

According to information in Remember Our Melvins and Kin, also
by Lionel Melvin, the ancestry of EPHRIAM POSEY MELVIN was not
entirely clear.  At this time, June 10, 2007, more information
is needed.

Notice that there are three Daniel James Melvins!
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1795-    ), Page 21, head-of-family.
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1815-1903), Page 33, head-of-family.
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1864-1943), Page 34, head-of-family.
The first DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1795-    ) is the one who is
listed here as the father of EPHRIAM POSEY MELVIN.

The line now reading:
"dau. Gay-Hill Texas Melvin, born 13 Feb. 1860. Married Walter"

Originally read:
"dau. Gachill Texas Melvin, born 13 Feb. 1860. Married Walter"

This information suggested by Mary Thiele Fobian of Pacific
Grove, California, on Sat, 9 Jun 2007 11:13:00 -0700 (PDT)
Her information comes from: "1860 US Census, FL Washington".

As an additional note, there is a ghost town in Texas named
"Gay Hill".  Perhaps the child could have been named after
the town.  If so, the name may have been spelled as one word,
hyphenated, or even as two words.

Incidentally, in the text, Kynesville is said to be in Jackson
County, Florida and later is said to be in Washington County,
Florida.  Kynesville is now in Jackson County, Florida.
Gay Hill is in Washington County, Texas.

There is additional information about the third
DANIEL JAMES MELVIN (1864-1943), not the one pertinent to this
page, at the bottom of page 142.  It seems to be a copy of some
sort of Family Record, perhaps reproduced by the "Blueprint"
process.
