Daughter of Hon. LEON DEXTER MELVIN (1875-1948) of Bladen
County, N.C., and Mae Susan Sykes (1882-1971), daughter of
JOHN WESLEY SYKES and Susan Elizabeth Tatum of Bladen Co.
Born 11 March 1912 in Bladen County, N.C. Married 4 July
1933 in Whiteville, Columbus County, N.C. Walter Douglas
Fisher of Cumberland County, N.C., son of Walter Lalister
Fisher and Rosa Bell Allen of Cumberland County. Walter
Douglas Fisher was a farmer and merchant at Cedar Creek, N.C.
ESMA received her education at Appalachian State Teachers'
College, East Carolina Teachers College and the University of
North Carolina. She began her teaching career at Ingold in
Sampson County in 1932 and continued in this field until her
retirement from the Cumberland County Public Schools. Chil-

     ville, N.C. Attended Campbell College. Married 28 June
     1953 in Fayetteville, N.C., Nellie Nesbeth Bertschi, the
     daughter of Jacob Bertschi and Nellie Grizella Maxwell
     of Cumberland County, N.C. Walter Douglas Fisher, Jr.,
     operates the mercantile business in Cedar Creek foun-
     ded by his father. Children:
     dau. Debora Kay Fisher, born 12 Sept. 1954 in Fayette-
          ville, N.C. married 4 Aug. 1973 in Fayetteville
          James Thomas Kornegay, Jr.
     son, Walter Douglas Fisher, III, born 5 June 1965 in
          Fayetteville, N.C.
dau. Willie Esma Fisher, born 4 June 1938 in Fayetteville,
     N.C., died in Fayetteville Nov. 1938 and buried in Ced-
     ar Creek Cemetery.
dau. Ann Marie Fisher, born in Fayetteville, N.C., 11 May
     1940. Married 31 December 1961 at Cedar Creek, Cumber-
     land County, N.C., Vincent Arnold Hamrick, born 12 July
     1939 in Greensboro, N.C., the son of Troy Vincent Ham-
     rick and Lydia Allie Caucby. Ann Marie Fisher is a grad-
     uate of Meredith College at Raleigh, N.C. Children:

     ville, N.C. Married 14 June 1970 Robert Farly Autry of
     Roseboro, N.C., born 25 Oct. 1950 the son of Stacy
     Autry and Chellie Lillian Howard.
