Son of DANIEL MELVIN I and Jane Thomas of Bladen County, N.C.
Born after 1755 (1800 census shows that he was between the
ages of 26 and 45) probably c1760. Time of his death is not
known, since he moved to South Carolina after 1800. Married
Mary Russ, who also was born after 1755 according to the
census, probably c1760. In 1800 there were two sons between
the ages of 10 and 16 and two under 10 (no daughters); thus
they must have been married c1785. Other than the knowledge
that members of this family are found in almost every southern
state, little information is available. Mary Russ was a
daughter of Thomas Russ, Jr. and Anna Singletary, daughter
of John Singletary of Bladen County, N.C. See RUSS FAMILY.

     N.C. Died in Florida. Married in Mars Hill, Washington
     County, Fla. Nancy Taylor, born Oct. 1799 and died in
     Mars Hill, Florida.

and Matilda Parker (possibly of Sampson County, N.C.) Born
20 Dec. 1857 in Bladen County, died in Columbia, S.C., 25
Dec. 1902, buried in Cumberland County, N.C. Married c1885/6
in Bladen County Ellen Cain, born 1861 in Bladen County,
died 19 July 1941 in Raleigh, N.C. and buried in Cumberland
County, N.C., the daughter of John Cain and Isabella McGinnis
of Bladen County. Children of GEORGE BUCHANNAN MELVIN and
Ellen L. Cain:
