Son of Sen. ROBERT MELVIN (1792-1846) of Bladen County, N.C.,
and Elizabeth Herrington of Sampson County, N.C., daughter of
JAMES HERRINGTON and Elizabeth McGehee. Born 5 April 1833, in
Turnbull Township, Bladen County, died 15 Oct. 1903 in Eliz-
abethtown, N.C., and buried in Old Trinity Methodist Cemetery.
Married c1866 Mary Ann Lucas of Bladen County, daughter of Dr.
John J.D. Lucas of Bladen County, N.C. GEORGE FLETCHER MELVIN
was a veteran of the Civil War, a merchant by profession and
for many years, Clerk of Superior Court of Bladen County, N.C.
Children of GEORGE FLETCHER MELVIN and Mary Ann Lucas:
 
dau. Mary Elizabeth Melvin, born 24 Nov. 1867, died 12 Oct.
     1917. Married Hawes Buchanan Register.
     dau. Mary Lou Register, married Ray Bostic.
dau. Ura Melvin, born 14 July 1869, died 5 March 1933. Mar-
     ried John Williamson.
     son, Judge Henry L. Williamson, Attor.
dau. Ada D. Melvin, born 17 Oct. 1870, died 18 June 1942.
     Continued her fathers's business after his death. Never
     married.
dau. Rena G. Melvin, born 20 Dec. 1872, died 21 June 1923 and
     buried in Old Trinity Methodist Cemetery in Elizabeth-
     town, N.C., where her father and all of her sisters are
     interred. Married Robert J. Hester, Sr., Register of
     Deeds for Bladen County. Children:
     dau. Ruth Hester, married Robert Humble.
     dau. Grace Hester, married McKaugan.
     dau. Lorena Hester, married Wm. R. Phillips of Raeford,
          N.C.
     son. Sen. Robert J. Hester, Jr., County Attor. and N.C.
          State Senator. Data incomplete, but had a son, R.
          J. Hester, III.

Son of Rev. WILLIAM SIMMONS MELVIN (1824-1911) and Eliza S.
Beard. Born in Bladen County, N.C., in the second year of
the Civil War (1862), died in 1915. Married Martha J. _____
(1876-1953). Children of GEORGE H. MELVIN and Martha J.:
 
dau. Flawney Melvin, married Carey Lewis.
dau. Sallie Melvin, married Roy Britt, son of John Britt
     and Stella Sykes who was a daughter of JOHN WESLEY
     SYKES and Susan Elizabeth Tatum. See SYKES and TATUM
     families.
son, Henry Melvin, married Carrie Bordeaux.
son, Carey Melvin, married Ruby Bordeaux.
dau. Rose Melvin, married Dixon Brisson of Dublin, N.C.
dau. Liza Melvin, married William Garner.
dau. Bertie Lee Melvin, married Lester Monroe Chinnis.
