Son of DANIEL MELVIN, II, (1769-1846) and Sarah West, dau.
of James West of Bladen County, N.C. Born in Bladen County
20 April 1810, died 20 April 1847 and buried in the burial
ground of his father on the Melvin Fayetteville-Wilmington
Stage Coach Road about three miles N.E. of Ammon in Bladen
County, N.C. His marker and all other family markers have
been moved to the JOHN S. MELVIN Cemetery at the ROBERT
MELVIN homesite, including those of his parents. Married
c1830 Ann Jane Young of Bladen County, North Carolina, the
daughter of David Young and Sidney Singletary. His will
dated 20 December 1845 describes himself as Planter and
Sheriff as of this date, meaning of course Sheriff of Bladen
County. He names only one child:

NOTE: After the death of Sheriff Melvin, his widow married
E. J. Carroll and is buried in the cemetery of her former
husband.

Son of JOSEPH MELVIN of South Carolina, originally of Bladen
County, N.C., but moved with his parents GEORGE MELVIN and
Mary Russ from North Carolina to South Carolina in the early
1800's. Some of JOSEPH's descendents believe that his first
wife was Mary Copeland but are unable to uncover any proof.
GEORGE WASHINGTON MELVIN was born in S.C. 22 Dec. 1822, died
in Mineola, Alabama 17 Oct. 1906; married, first, Mary Ann
Thompson, Marianna, Jackson County, Fla., born 1828, died
1 Jan. 1869 in Jackson County, Fla.: Married, second, Sarah
Elizabeth Burtran in 1873 - no issue. He was a farmer and a
blacksmith and highly respected by his neighbors in Mineola.

     Nancy Ann Morris, born 25 Dec. 1859 in Finchburg, Monroe
     County, Alabama, the daughter of Jesse Morris.
