Son of EDWARD MELVIN (c1797-    ) and Elizabeth Sutton of
Bladen County, N.C., daughter of William Sutton and Ann Tho-
mas. Born 1822 in Bladen County, N.C., died 1893 in Georgia.
Married c1854 Mary Eliza Sykes, dau. of LUKE SYKES and Mary
Atkinson of Bladen County, N.C. He served as a Sgt. with the
Confederacy in the Civil War, took his family to Georgia aft-
er 1870. Children of JOHN J. MELVIN and Mary Eliza Melvin:
 
son, William J. Melvin, born 19 Feb. 1856 in Bladen County,
     N.C., died 14 Sept. 1935. Married c1880 in Ty Ty, Ga.,
     Mary Dixon.
dau. Mary E. Melvin, born 1859 in Bladen County, N.C.
son, ANN ELIZABETH MELVIN, born 29 Aug. 1866 in Bladen County,
     N.C., died 4 January 1943 in Panama City, Florida, and
     buried in Greenwood Cemetery. Married George Washington
