John McKay Family
Holds Family Reunion

     Approximately 90 members of the
John Archibald McKay family
gathered Sunday, June 3, at the
historic old home of the late John
H. (sic) and Sallie McKay at Parkers-
burg for their second annual re-
union.  Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Melvin,
Misses Lina and Mattie Melvin
were joint hostesses.  Members of
the clan assembled from Georgia,
South Carolina and Virginia.

     Following an old-fashioned pic-
nic lunch the family assembled for
a group picture.  The clan, in a
business session, decided to form
an organization, choosing as the
name, "John Archibald McKay
clan."  Irving B. McKay, Durham,
was named president.  Other of-
ficers were: Mrs. D. H. McKay,
Elizabethtown, secretary; Mrs. T.
B. Melvin, Sanford, publicity chair-
man.  The clan voted to meet next
year at one of the lakes in Bladen,
Singletary Lake being favorably
mentioned as this is near the site
of the old homestead of John Archi-
bald McKay.  The newly elected
officers will select the place and
time of the next reunion.

     (Editor's Note:)
At the top of this short newspaper
clipping someone had written in pen
the date "1939". Within the article
the date of the reunion is given as
"Sunday, June 3".  Unfortunately,
Sunday did not fall on June 3 in 1939
nor in any other year close to 1939.

The newspaper's name is not given.
