Mr. Baxter
was a lifelong
resident of Greensboro and a
graduate of Guilford College. He
was a World War II veteran, hav-
ing served with Army Headquar-
ters in the South Pacific. He re-
tired in 1984 as senior
vice-president of personnel, after
44 years of service with Jefferson-
Pilot Life Insurance Company. He
was a lifelong member of Muir's
Chapel United Methodist Church,
serving in many capacities, most
recently being a member of the
administrative board. He was a
teacher of the Men's Bible Class
most of his adult life. He was also
a member of Cardinal Golf and
Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 50
years, Gillie Siler Baxter; daugh-
ter, Wanda B. Campbell and son-
in-law, Dexter Campbell Jr. of
Winston-Salem; daughter, Sandra
B. Wagoner and son-in-law, Mi-
chael Wagoner of Lynchburg, Va.;
grandchildren, Blake Campbell
and Chip Campbell of Winston-
Salem and Jeffrey Wagoner and
Scott Wagoner of Lynchburg, Va.;
sister, Jane Baxter Smith of Sum-
merfield; and one brother, Carl S.
Baxter of Port Townsend, Wash.
