Mrs. Norma Harrington Melvin Bundy of Twin Lakes Center, formerly of Greensboro, died February 13, 2007.
Mrs. Bundy was born September 21, 1912, the daughter of the late Thomas
Bannerman and Lena McKay Melvin. She was the wife of the late Dr. V.
Mayo Bundy. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin Evander,
Edwin Roscoe, Thurman Bannerman, and John Stephen Melvin; and two
sisters, Clarise Vernon Melvin Motsinger and Eva McKeithan Melvin
Matthews. Mrs. Bundy grew up in White Oak, North Carolina. She
graduated from East Carolina University in 1935 and received her
master’s degree from UNCG. She was a devoted mother and a beloved
life-long educator, teaching throughout North Carolina including
Alamance, Bladen, Guilford, and Rockingham counties. She was a member
of West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro. She lived
at Twin Lakes Center for almost 10 years and cherished the many friends
and caregivers whom she grew to love during her time there, especially
Mrs. Avery Pettiford. Survivors include one son, Vee Mayo Bundy
and his wife, Brenda Veltri, of Roswell, Ga.; and daughters, Kay Bowman
and husband, Tom, of Burlington, Deborah Wilson and husband, John, of
Southern Pines, and Linda Johnson and husband, Mickey, of Madison;
seven grandchildren, Gretchen Anne Bundy Ladowicz and husband, Tim, of
Annapolis, Md., Laurie Bowman Dusenberry and husband, Doug, of Eagle,
Colo., Karen Bowman Entrekin and husband, Shane, of Raleigh, Whitney
Harrington Wilson of Raleigh, Erin Frances Wilson of Southern Pines,
Brent Bundy Johnson and wife, Krista, of Romulus, N.Y., and Nicolas
Odell Johnson and wife, Kristy, of Browns Summit; and six
great-grandchildren, Jackson Reid, Olivia Bowman, Grace Vivian
Dusenberry, Cameron McKay, Drew Alexander, and Walter Bowman Entrekin.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 in
the Gathering Room at Twin Lakes Center. Visitation will precede the
service beginning at 9 a.m. Entombment will be at the Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon, North Carolina at 2 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the V. Mayo and Norma
Melvin Bundy Scholarship, The University of North Carolina at Chapel
